Trivia & History
Ellen Hanley substituted for Polly Bergen for seven performances (April 24-29, 1959), then Bergen returned on Thursday, April 30. On Sunday, May 3, Bergen, who was reported to be three months pregnant, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition from a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy. The following night, Hanley took over the role for the remaining four weeks of the run.
