Ellen Hanley substituted for Polly Bergen for seven performances (April 24-29, 1959), then Bergen returned on Thursday, April 30. On Sunday, May 3, Bergen, who was reported to be three months pregnant, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition from a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy. The following night, Hanley took over the role for the remaining four weeks of the run.

In the issue dated February 18, 1959, Variety reported that the pre-Broadway run at the Forrest in Philadelphia (which followed a run at the Shubert in New Haven) had opened the night before. Variety reported a gross of “over $58,800 for five performances and three previews.” This was an error, which is fairly obvious since Variety could not report on a full week's gross the day after the opening. The opening at the Forrest was on Tuesday, February 10. Reviews appeared in area newspapers on February 11. Although a single preview had been played in New Haven, no previews were played in Philadelphia. The performance schedule for that first week in Philadelphia included an extra holiday matinee on Thursday, February 12, in addition to the usual matinees on Wednesday and Saturday.
