Built on the site of Tripler Hall, the building was initially a circus. It became a theatre in 1859. The building burnt in 1867 and was not rebuilt.
The building was temporarily billed as Barnum's Museum at the Winter Garden after fire destroyed Barnum's American Museum on July 3, 1865.
