When the original production opened, the book was credited to Joseph Benjamin, based on a story by John Jennings (author of the music and lyrics). Later, the book was also credited to Jennings, who had temporarily adopted the pseudonym of Joseph Benjamin just for the book.


The 1966 stock tour featured book revisions by original author John Jennings and two new songs — “Too Married” and “Could We Be in Love Again” — that were written by Philip Springer (music) and Joan Javits (lyrics).
