Synopsis

In a sun-swept Italian piazza, a dashing auto-racing duke vies for affection while his rival, a headstrong Texan woman, and the duke’s granddaughter—who just happens to be a practicing witch—create a tangled web of attraction. Add in a doppelgänger priest who doubles as emissary from the devil, and you’ve got romantic mix-ups, supernatural flirtations, and a carnival of identity swaps—all swirling toward one comedic Italian summer’s day.

Trivia & History

An early announcement of the show appeared in the Louis Calta's New York Times theatre column on July 5, 1956. At that time, it was to be a "comedy with music" in three acts, with a cast of 13. The title at that time was Too Little Time for Love, which would end up being the title of one of the songs in the show that was eventually produced as Portofino.
