Based on the play The Corn is Green by Emlyn Williams

Synopsis

A determined English schoolteacher arrives in a Welsh mining town with a mission to educate children who have few opportunities. She discovers an exceptionally bright youth and pushes him toward scholarship and self-respect, confronting local skepticism, class barriers, and his own doubts. As lessons become a path out of the pits, her persistence and his emerging ambition are tested by community pressures, forcing both mentor and student to choose between expectation and possibility.
