Chafing at ritual, the King and Queen sneak away with their children—Prince Peter and Princess Diana—for a holiday incognito. The Queen trails famed explorer who thrills her sense of adventure; Diana falls hard for champion swimmer Charlie Rausmiller; Peter idolizes a Broadway hoofer whose carefree life beckons; and the King is dazzled by temperamental movie star Eva Standing. As republican rumblings grow and the jubilee pageant looms, the foursome must abandon disguises and reconcile private infatuations with royal duty.
