A spirited chorus girl secretly weds a wealthy young man, only to face opposition from his family, who see her as beneath their class. Determined to defend her place, she confronts schemes to break apart the union. Comic entanglements, romantic quarrels, and lively musical sequences test the couple’s resolve until wit, loyalty, and affection persuade even the staunchest relatives that love outranks social standing.

The show originally opened out of town as A Dangerous Maid with a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin. It closed prior to Broadway and was revised with a new score.
