Originally issued on the Dot label as one side of a record, paired with The Water Gypsies (aka The Water Gipsies). Also issued alone on a 10-inch record by World Record Club.
This is not exactly a London cast recording. Apart from the fact that only eight songs from the score are included (one of which is reprised as a finale), only five members of the London cast are heard on the recording. Virginia Somers, who played Emma in the production, is heard here in Emma's two numbers and also in Ruth's "It's a Helluva Way to Run a Love Affair." This may have been because the role's originator in the original Broadway production, Shirl Conway, reprised the role in the London production. Having recorded her role on the original Broadway cast recording, she may have been contractually forbidden from appearing on this recording.
In addition, the recording's conductor, Cyril Ornadel, did not conduct the London production. Reginald Burston conducted the production.
On the World Record Club issue, the orchestra and chorus, evidently not from the production, are credited as the Westminster Concert Orchestra and Chorus.
