Trivia & History
Narration was written by Joseph Stein for this recording, permitting Herschel Bernardi to tie the recording together and to set up his singing songs that Tevye does not sing in the show. The recording includes the cut song "When Messiah Comes" and the song "Fidder on the Roof," which was never in the show but was included in the vocal selections book, using music from the show with a lyric added to it using the show's title.
The recording was issued on CD in a two-CD release that also included Herschel Bernardi's 1970 Columbia solo record, Show Stopper. This issue included additional bonus tracks featuring Bernardi, taken from singles that Bernardi made for Columbia.
