Notes

There is uncertainty about the exact date on which Marcia Rodd replaced Linda Lavin. The show opened on Sunday, January 9, 1966. On that day, Leonard Lyons reported in his widely syndicated column, Lyons Den, that Linda Lavin was to play opening night and would be replaced by Marcia Rodd the following day. Lavin was to move directly into rehearsals for It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman. There was no performance the following day as it was a Monday, and the show was playing a Tuesday through Sunday schedule. If Rodd took over at the next performance, that would have been January 11, 1966.

Contradicting this, an ad for show> in the edition of the New York Times dated Sunday, January 16, 1966, had Lavin listed among the cast, and Rodd was not listed. On Tuesday, January 18, a column in the Daily News stated that Rodd had replaced Lavin, which seems, along with the Times ad, to leave open the possibility that Lavin played the first full week of performances after the Sunday opening. The Best Plays for 1965-1966 has the date as January 16, 1966. That might agree with the News item since the item was in the past tense, but it would mean that the Times ad that listed Lavin was inaccurate. While it may seem a little odd that Rodd would have taken over on a Sunday, it is certainly not impossible. Several years later, Rodd said in an interview in the New York Times, published in the edition dated March 14, 1971, that she went into the show four days after the opening.

So it seems impossible to find the exact date on which Rodd replaced Lavin.
