Within a few days of the opening, the title was changed from El Coca-Cola Grande to El Grande de Coca-Cola. According to an article that was published in the New York Times on February 17, 1973, this was done "at the behest of the Coca-Cola Company." The article went on to say that Julius R. Landsford, Jr., the chief trademark attorney for Coca-Cola in Atlanta, had said that the original title was "an improper use from the trademark standpoint" in that the name of the soft drink "was used denominatively as the name of the play." The new title was permissible because it meant, according to Landsford, "a spectacular about Coca-Cola."

We're not making this up, you know.
