According to an article in the New York Times, RCA was to record the score on Sept. 6, 1982, two days before the start of New York previews, but the recording was canceled. After the show closed, a cast recording was made by Original Cast records.
The numbers listed in the playbill as "Prologue" and "Finale" were complete numbers involving singing and a little dialogue. They were not medleys of material heard elsewhere in the show.
The Entr'acte, which was not listed in the playbill, was used as the Overture on the cast recording, with one adjustment: on the recording, it started with the first few measures of the show's brief orchestral prelude.
The pre-Broadway tryout at the Ahmanson was originally scheduled to run through September 4, 1982, but because of poor business, it closed two weeks early, on August 21.
