Synopsis

After losing re-election, John P. Wintergreen whips up a “Blue Shirt” movement promising jobs and justice. With Alexander Throttlebottom and Mary at his side, he topples the new administration, installs loyalists, and turns slogans into show trials and sham reforms. Shortages, graft, and rival opportunists strain the regime as legal and personal scrapes spin into farce. When the crowd’s fervor evaporates, the movement collapses under its own contradictions, leaving Wintergreen to confront the cost of chasing power and the fragility of manufactured glory.
