It seems that the recording was probably made after the move from the Lyric Opera House in Hammersmith to the Saville in London. This would explain why Cleo Laine is heard as Mrs. Yajnavalkya, and Denise Hirst performs the role of Niri-Esther. At the Lyric Opera House, Bertice Reading played Mrs. Yajnavalkya, and Maxine Daniels played Niri-Esther. Reading would eventually record the role of Mrs. Yajnavalkya on the cast recording of the 1982 Chichester Festival production.
