MGM recorded a live cast recording of this show but it never received general distribution. This is the story, as we've heard it: When the cast heard the live recording, they were unhappy with it and requested that it not be issued and they be allowed to go into the studio to make a new recording. MGM agreed, but a certain number of copies of the live recording had already been pressed. MGM sent those to the remainder bins of department-stores record departments. A couple of numbers are heard in slightly longer versions on this recording.
On the cover, at the top, the words ACTUAL ON-STAGE, IN-PERFORMANCE RECORDING appear. At the bottom it says RECORDED DURING AN ACTUAL PERFORMANCE, THEATRE 80 ST. MARKS, NEW YORK CITY. In all other ways, the cover is identical to that of the studio version, including the record number (MGM S1E-9 OC).
It seems that MGM may have printed more of these covers than they pressed records because the studio recording is sometimes inside copies with the live recording's cover.
