Initially a lot more characters from the comic books were going to be in the new book, including Lex Luthor. However, the rights to the characters (aside from Clark/Superman, Lois, Torchy and Perry White) were not available to the creative team and they were unable to proceed with those character names.
The July 15th performance had to be cancelled when doctors told Patrick Cassidy to go on immediate "vocal rest." It was reported that since there was no understudy, they had to cancel that evening. However, ticket holders were given comp seats to the non-Equity tour of Beauty and the Beast playing at the larger theatre in the complex and seats to a later performance. Cassidy was expected to return by the time the last week of performances began. However, he did not return with no official reason given. Joel Ferrell, the choreographer, assumed the role for the remainder of the run. Rumor around the Dallas theatre scene was that he was unhappy in the show and chose to leave to prepare for the Ravinia Festival Annie Get Your Gun with Patti LuPone.
