While most post-Broadway productions for decades performed the licensed version (or something close to it), which used the changes made for the North American national tour, the script and score performed in the 1951 Broadway was the basis for this production.

At least two contemporary sources — the December 1952 issue of Theatre Arts magazine, which included the text of the national tour revision of the script and an article on the show, and the London Dispatch column on page 2 of the issue of Billboard magazine dated August 2, 1952 — stated that Joe E. Brown would be starring in this production, but instead Bobby Howes ended up starring as Ben Rumson.

On January 25, 1954, around 45 minutes of excerpts from the production were telecast in England, live from the stage of Her Majesty's Theatre.

The production, somewhat unusually, played a tryout run of eight weeks at the Opera House in Manchester.
