Trivia & History

Van Johnson's ”deputy” (understudy), Gordon Boyd, was to take over the role of Harold Hill on February 24, 1962. He had reportedly played the role approximately 30 times. The production closed on February 22, but Boyd and Maureen Hartley, who had replaced Patricia Lambert as Marian Paroo in December 1961, starred in the post-West End tour.
